The Brief

A Premium Ad Film on a Small-Business Budget

Two clients, opposite industries, the same ask. Twing Cafe, a healthy-cafe franchise, wanted a launch film with the finish of a national beverage spot. Wazwood, a premium architectural-surface manufacturer, wanted a brand film that made an engineered board read as a specified luxury material rather than a commodity sheet. Neither had a national-brand budget or a national-brand calendar.

A traditional TVC is a full production: a director and a shoot crew, a location or a built set, talent and a stylist, camera and lighting packages, then an offline edit and a grade. Booked end to end, that is weeks of scheduling and lakhs of rupees committed before the first frame is signed off. For a concept film or a launch teaser — something that sets a mood rather than demonstrates a feature — that is a heavy fixed cost for a twenty-second cut.

The brief, in both cases, was to get the atmosphere and the polish of that produced film without the shoot day, and to end up with something that could actually run as an ad, not a tech demo.

The Workflow

How We Make Them

The process looks more like editing than shooting. AI generates the raw atmosphere; everything that makes it feel like an ad happens after.

Script and shot list

Nothing gets generated until there is a script and a shot-by-shot list — the establishing wide, the slow push across a surface, the light moving through a room, the pour, the rising steam. The list is built around what AI video is good at: mood, motion, texture, light. Shots that depend on a specific product detail or a person's face are flagged early as ones we will need to handle differently.

Generate the atmosphere

Each shot on the list becomes a prompt for an AI video tool. We generate several options per shot, keep the takes where the motion and light hold together, and discard the ones with the tell-tale artefacts — warping edges, melting geometry, physics that does not sit right.

Cut where AI is weak

Close-ups of faces and hands, anything with readable text or a logo, exact product geometry — generative video still gets these wrong often enough that we design around them. Faces stay in the mid-distance or turned. Product hero shots that have to be exact are the one place we will drop in a real clip or a still.

Edit to the beat

The kept shots are cut to a music track: pacing, rhythm, and the order that builds. This is the stage that turns a folder of pretty clips into a film.

Licensed sound

A licensed music bed plus sound design — room tone, foley, the small sounds that sell a shot — mixed to picture. Nothing pulled off a free-clip site.

Brand type and colour on top

The client's typeface, palette, logo lock-up and end card go on last, to the same brand rules as the rest of their work. For Twing Cafe and Wazwood the film sits inside a larger engagement, so it has to match the website, the social grid and the ads exactly.

AI does the atmosphere. The craft is the edit, the sound and the brand layer — the same three things that carry any ad film. It is the same production discipline behind every content project we run, and there is a fuller write-up of the trade-offs in this piece on whether AI-made video ads are good enough to run.

The Work

The Films

Four cuts across two brands. The Twing Cafe film is a launch teaser. The three Wazwood cuts are one brand film in three lengths and framings, built for different placements. Each film runs muted by default — tap the speaker to hear the mix.

The Trade-off

AI vs a Live Shoot

AI video is not a replacement for a shoot. It is a different tool with a different shape — faster and far cheaper, weaker on precision and on anything with a person at the centre of the frame.

FactorAI videoLive TVC shoot
Turnaround Days, from script to finished cut Weeks — crew, location and talent all have to be scheduled
Cost band A fraction of a live TVC — no crew, no gear rental, no location fee, no shoot day Market rate for a produced film — typically lakhs before the edit begins
Exact product shots Weak — AI approximates geometry, text and logos Strong — the product is on set and shot to spec
Best fit Atmosphere, concept films, launch teasers, mood pieces Dialogue, product demonstrations, exact packaging, hero hands and faces

On the projects where we have used it, AI video has covered the atmosphere brief well and freed the budget for the parts that need a human eye. It has not once been the right call for a film built around someone talking to camera.

The Fit

When It Fits

AI video ad production is the right call when:

  • the film sells a feeling, a concept or a launch, not a specific product feature
  • the budget or the timeline rules out a full production
  • you need teaser and launch content quickly, and in more than one cut, for social placements
  • close-ups of people talking, hands using the product, or exact packaging are not central to the edit

When the brief is a spokesperson, a demo, or a product the viewer needs to see accurately, a live shoot is still the right spend.

Questions

Before You Ask

Are AI-made video ads good enough to run as real ads?

Yes, for the right brief. Generative AI video is strong at atmosphere — light, motion, texture, mood — which is most of what a launch teaser or a concept film needs. The finish still comes from a real edit, licensed sound and a proper brand layer on top. Where it is not ready is dialogue, precise product shots and close-ups of faces and hands, so we build the film around those limits rather than through them. The Twing Cafe and Wazwood films were produced this way and run as live ads.

How much does an AI video ad cost vs a normal shoot?

A fraction of a produced TVC. A live shoot carries a crew, gear rental, a location or set, talent and a shoot day before the edit even starts, and that is where the lakhs go. An AI-made film removes all of that: the cost is tool time plus the edit, sound and brand work. The exact figure depends on the number of cuts and the length, but it sits well below a traditional production.

Can AI make an ad with people talking?

Not well, yet. AI video handles people in the mid-distance and in motion, but close-up lip-sync, natural hand movement and consistent faces across shots are still unreliable. For an ad built around a person speaking to camera — a founder, a spokesperson, a testimonial — a real shoot is still the right choice. Where a film only needs people as part of the atmosphere, AI can carry it.
