Short Answer

A new website usually takes a few days to a few weeks to show up in Google. If it's been longer, the common causes are: it was never submitted to Google Search Console, a noindex tag or robots.txt block is left on from staging, there's no sitemap or internal links, the content is thin or duplicated, or the page is orphaned. Check Search Console's Pages report first, then request indexing.

You built the site, published it, and a week later you Google your own business name and it's just not there. Not page one, not page five, nothing. For a domain that's only a few weeks old, that can be normal. If the site's been live a month or more and still returns zero results, something is blocking Google rather than slowing it down.

We've built and launched sites for 25+ Rajkot and Gujarat businesses, and "why isn't it on Google yet" is the first thing almost every owner asks after handover. The checks that find the cause take about fifteen minutes and mostly run inside one free tool, Google Search Console. Here's the order we work through them.

How long until a new website shows on Google?

A new website usually starts appearing in Google within a few days to about four weeks. A fresh domain with no backlinks and only a handful of pages sits at the slow end of that range, because Google crawls unknown sites less often. Once the site has been live past a month with nothing showing, treat it as blocked.

Quick test: type site:yourdomain.com into Google. If it lists even one page, you're in the index and the real issue is ranking, so jump to the last section. If it returns nothing after a month, keep reading. Indexing and ranking are separate stages. Google first discovers a URL, then crawls it, then decides whether to store it in the index, and only an indexed page can rank. A site can clear the first two stages and still stall at the third.

Why isn't my site indexed at all?

Five causes cover almost every case we've seen on client sites:

How do I check if Google has my pages?

Open Google Search Console and go to Indexing > Pages. It shows how many of your URLs are indexed and, for every URL that isn't, the exact reason. For one specific page, paste its address into the URL Inspection bar at the top; Google tells you whether it's indexed, the date it was last crawled, and the specific problem if it's not.

Screenshot: the Google Search Console Pages report with the "Indexed" and "Not indexed" counts at the top and the reasons table below, showing how many URLs fall under each status.

The statuses you'll see most often in that report, and what each one is telling you:

Search Console statusWhat it meansWhat to do
Discovered - currently not indexedGoogle knows the URL but hasn't crawled it yetImprove site quality and internal links, then request indexing
Crawled - currently not indexedGoogle crawled it and chose not to store itAdd original depth to the page, then re-request
Excluded by 'noindex' tagThe staging noindex tag is still on the pageRemove the meta robots tag or X-Robots-Tag header
Blocked by robots.txtA Disallow rule is stopping the crawlerEdit robots.txt to allow the path
Alternate page with proper canonical tagYour canonical URL points at a different pageFix rel=canonical to point at the page itself

No login handy? The site:yourdomain.com search is a rough version of the same check from any browser, and you can narrow it further with site:yourdomain.com/services to test one section.

How do I force Google to crawl my site?

You can't force it, but you can ask, and you can make each page easy to reach. Work through these in order:

  1. Add and verify your site in Google Search Console.
  2. Open Indexing > Pages and read the reason listed for every URL that isn't indexed.
  3. Remove any leftover noindex meta tag, X-Robots-Tag header, or robots.txt Disallow rule.
  4. Submit your sitemap.xml under Indexing > Sitemaps.
  5. Add internal links so every page is one or two clicks from the homepage, with no orphans.
  6. Paste each important URL into URL Inspection and click Request indexing.

Request indexing has a daily quota of a handful of URLs, so start with the homepage and your top service pages. Beyond Search Console, Googlebot follows links, so give it more than one path in: add the site URL to your Google Business Profile, put it in your Instagram bio, and get it onto any local directory or supplier page you control. One link from a page that's already indexed often does more than the request button.

When we relaunched a Rajkot interior studio's site on a new domain, the homepage was indexed within two days of the sitemap going in. The deeper project pages only got picked up after we linked to them from the homepage and added the new domain to the studio's Google Business Profile.

What if it's indexed but ranking nowhere?

If site:yourdomain.com shows your pages but searches for your services don't, indexing isn't the problem anymore. Google has the page and has decided it isn't the best answer yet. A new domain carries almost no authority, so a few months of low rankings is normal even once everything is indexed correctly.

Start with your own business name. If your exact name doesn't return your site near the top after a couple of weeks in the index, check that the homepage title tag actually contains the name and that no larger brand shares it. For competitive queries like "interior designer Rajkot" or "gym near me", you're up against sites with years of history, backlinks and hundreds of Google reviews, and closing that gap needs on-page SEO, real content, reviews and local signals built up over time.

There's a newer surface worth planning for too. A growing share of buyers in Rajkot open ChatGPT or Gemini and ask for a recommendation before they search Google. Whether your business shows up in those AI answers is a separate problem, and getting cited there is a discipline called GEO. Both still depend on having a crawlable, well-structured site, which is the thing you just fixed.

Nine times out of ten, a site that's "not on Google" a month after launch has a staging noindex tag still switched on. Check that before anything else.

Key Takeaways

  • A new domain can take days to a few weeks to appear; past a month with nothing, assume something is blocking Google.
  • The most common block is a noindex tag or a robots.txt Disallow left on from the staging build.
  • Google Search Console's Pages report names the exact reason each URL isn't indexed.
  • No sitemap and no internal links leave pages orphaned and undiscovered.
  • "Crawled - currently not indexed" almost always means thin or duplicate content.
  • Indexed but not ranking is a different problem: authority, on-page SEO and local signals, which take months.

FAQ

How long does it take for a new website to show up on Google?

Usually a few days to about four weeks. A brand-new domain with no backlinks and only a handful of pages takes longer because Google crawls it less often. If nothing appears for a site:yourdomain.com search after a month, assume a technical block rather than a slow crawl.

Why does Google say my page is 'Crawled - currently not indexed'?

It means Googlebot fetched the page and chose not to add it to the index, almost always because the content is thin, near-duplicate, or offers little that similar pages don't. Expand the page with original detail, add internal links to it, then request indexing again in Search Console.

How do I get Google to index my site faster?

Add the site to Google Search Console, submit an XML sitemap, and use URL Inspection to request indexing for each key page. Then give Googlebot a path in: internal links from your homepage, your Google Business Profile, and any social or directory profile you control.
